     DEFYING NPP GUIDELINES

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken formal action against its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, by referring him to the party’s Disciplinary Committee. This follows what the party described as “unguarded public comments” and a breach of directives issued by its National Council  .

In a statement released on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong disclosed that the decision was taken during a meeting of the National Steering Committee  . The party, however, did not reveal specific details of the alleged misconduct, only confirming that Abronye’s actions “contravened internal guidelines designed to safeguard unity ahead of the party’s upcoming presidential primaries”  .

The move comes at a crucial time as the NPP gears up for its flagbearer election scheduled for January 31, 2026, with the party seeking to preserve internal cohesion  .

Besides Abronye’s referral, the party has issued a directive to halt all unauthorised caucuses and meetings involving current or former executives and presidential aspirants. The statement further emphasised the duty of party members “to protect party unity, to abide by and publicly support the Party’s decisions”  .

Additionally, all declared presidential aspirants have been summoned to attend a joint meeting with the National Steering Committee and the National Council of Elders on July 3, 2025, to discuss “matters of mutual interest” and ensure an orderly and competitive campaign  . Expected attendees include prominent hopefuls like former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former MP Kennedy Agyapong, MP Dr Bryan Acheampong, and former MP Joe Ghartey  .

This disciplinary action highlights the NPP’s resolve to clamp down on internal indiscipline and prevent factionalism as it prepares for the next milestone in its electoral calendar.
