At 83, Monty Python’s Eric Idle is back on the road with his first UK tour in over 50 years, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, Live! The comedy legend, now cancer-free, reflects on his creative life, political views, and enduring love for satire.

In a recent interview, Idle didn’t hold back on Donald Trump, calling him “a treasonous monster who works for Putin” and joking that he’d be “proud” to be thrown out of America for speaking out. With nearly three decades as a U.S. resident, Idle remains sharply critical of what he sees as America’s addiction to chaos.

Beyond politics, Idle shared insights on comedy, creativity, and aging. He writes daily, avoids speaking before lunch, and values jokes that punch up rather than hurt. His iconic song, “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,” now frequently sung at funerals, symbolizes his blend of humor and humanism.

Idle’s new show mixes stories, music, and philosophy—with a few fart jokes for good measure. “I still believe in being funny,” he says, “but I also believe in being kind.
